Ampem Darkoa Ladies captain Priscilla Okyere says the opportunity to represent Ghana in the CAF Women’s Champions League is providing extra motivation ahead of Saturday’s WAFU Zone B final against Edo Queens.
The Ghanaian champions will face the Nigerian side at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou, knowing victory will secure the regional title and qualification for Africa’s premier women’s club competition.
Ampem Darkoa have enjoyed a perfect campaign, winning all four matches, including a 2-1 comeback victory over Edo Queens in the group stage.
Okyere says the chance to progress to the continental stage has strengthened the team’s desire to win the final and secure a historic opportunity for the players.
“For us, our motivation is to be in the Champions League because every player’s dream is to play in the World Cup and also to play in the Champions League,” Okyere said.
“And God being so good, right now we have our own in Africa. It doesn’t mean that you have to go to Europe before you can play Champions League. Right now, we have us here, and our biggest motivation is to qualify, is to win the trophy and is to also represent Ghana in the Champions League.”
The captain believes winning Saturday’s final would give the team an opportunity to carry Ghana’s flag onto the continental stage.
