The Volta Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced the official opening of entries for the 4th Volta Regional GJA Media Awards after more than five years of hiatus.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Sky Plus Hotel and Resort in Ho, under the theme: “Harnessing the Tourism Potential of Ghana into the Future: Positioning Volta Region as the New Frontier.”
According to the Regional Chairman, Dr. Harrison Kofi Belley, entries will be open from Monday, September 7, 2026, to Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eligible participants are media practitioners working in the Volta Region across print, electronic and online platforms, with submissions covering works published or broadcast between January 1, 2020, and August 30, 2026.
The awards will recognise excellence in 13 categories, including Sports, Education, Business/Economics, Health/Environment/Science, Agriculture, Gender/Disability, Tourism and Arts, Community Reporting, Best Radio/TV Programme, Best Student Journalist of the Year, GJA/Ras Muta Most Promising Journalist of the Year, GJA/Hon. James Gunu Journalist of the Year, and Special Recognition Awards.
The GJA emphasised at the launch that each entry must be original, clear and properly published, and that one work cannot be submitted in more than one category. Entries must bear the award category, in addition to personal details, media house and contact information of the applicant.
Submissions should be made in both electronic and hardcopy formats, with soft copies sent via email to [email protected] and hard copies delivered to the Administrator, Volta GJA Secretariat, Press Centre, Ho.
The Association noted that it reserves the right not to confer an award in any category where submissions do not merit recognition, and that members of the Regional Executive and the Awards Committees are not eligible to contest.
The regional branch has also set up dedicated committees to oversee the entire awards process to ensure transparency and credibility.
The Chairman of the Awards Committee, Mr. Hubert Yevu Agbi, has congratulated the Volta Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on the initiative to revive the Regional Media Awards, noting that its success will require significant sponsorship.
He appealed to members with corporate links and contacts to liaise with the planning committee to ensure the organisation of not just a successful programme, but one of the most well-organised events in recent times that all members can be proud of.
Mr. Agbi also encouraged practising journalists not to hesitate in submitting entries for the awards, stressing that whether one wins or not, participation itself is a valuable attempt that could lead to success in future editions.
He called for all hands on deck to work towards improving the journalism profession in the region, and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to chair the awards process.
