A political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to tolerate internal criticisms and strictly adhere to its rules and regulations, describing dissent as a vital element of democratic governance.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on January 13, 2026, Dr Asah-Asante noted that while party members are bound by established rules and may face sanctions for breaches, criticisms should not be misconstrued as destructive.

“Criticisms are the oils that grease the wheels of governance, without which any political entity will grind to a halt,” he said, urging the party to develop the capacity to accommodate dissenting views.

He further stressed the need for fairness and due process, particularly in the case involving Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.

Dr Asah-Asante expressed hope that Prof Frimpong-Boateng would be given the opportunity to be heard before any decision is taken.

This comes amid the NPP’s move to initiate processes to expel Prof Frimpong-Boateng, a former Minister of Science and Technology, over remarks he made in a television interview, in which he described the party as ‘fake’ and questioned its internal democratic credentials.
