Assemblies of God Launches 2026 World Congress in Accra

Accra, Nov. 16, GNA – The Assemblies of God has officially launched the 2026 World Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship in Accra, marking a historic milestone as Ghana becomes the first African nation to host the global event.

Ghana’s hosting of the 2026 Congress marked a historic milestone in the global fellowship’s 110-year journey and the 93rd year of Assemblies of God ministry in Ghana.

The launch ceremony brought together distinguished clergy, dignitaries, and members of the Christian community from across Ghana and beyond.

The event was officiated by the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, Reverend Dominic Yeo, who also serves as the General Superintendent of the Singapore Assemblies of God.

The Congress scheduled for 14th to 16th October 2026 is expected to bring together 10,000 pastors and church leaders on the theme: “Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation.”

In his address, Reverend Yeo declared the Congress officially launched, commending Ghana’s spiritual vitality, political stability, and hospitality.

He emphasized the strategic importance of the Congress, noting its alignment with the MM33 agenda—a global vision to establish one million Assemblies of God churches by 2033.

Reverend Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to host the Congress, describing it as a “righteous imposition” and a divine assignment.

He highlighted the denomination’s growth, with global membership now exceeding 89.9 million, including 20 million in Africa and over 98,000 local assemblies.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), chaired by Reverend Andrews Nelson Awintia, was inaugurated last year and has since been working diligently to prepare for the Congress.

Reverend Awintia pledged the LOC’s commitment to excellence, invoking a local proverb: “No one person can embrace a baobab tree,” to emphasize the need for collective effort.

The launch also featured tributes to the families of six female potential recruits, who tragically lost their lives at the Airworks Stadium, with attendees observing a moment of silence in their honour.

Speaking at the official launch of the Congress, Mr. Eric Kutortse, a prominent member and servant of the Assemblies of God, described the upcoming event as a “divine appointment” and a “heavenly summons,” emphasizing its spiritual significance and global impact.

“This is not just history being made; it is destiny unfolding,” Mr. Kutortse declared, highlighting the vision to build one million churches globally.

He called on corporate Ghana, business leaders, and kingdom investors to support the Congress, describing it as a national programme that deserved collective ownership and honour.

Mr. Kutortse also reflected on the enduring power of the gospel in a world challenged by distractions and materialism.

“The message of the cross has not lost its power,” he said. “In a culture that worships power, the gospel still teaches us to be humble.”

He affirmed Ghana’s readiness to welcome the nations, inviting the global community to experience the country’s rich culture, hospitality, and spiritual depth.

“As Ghana prepares to receive the world, may this Congress become a moment of awakening—a revival that reshapes how the world sees Africa,” he concluded.

The 2026 Congress is expected to draw thousands of delegates from across the globe, positioning Ghana as a spiritual hub and reaffirming Africa’s role not just as a mission field, but as a mission force.

The event underscored the socio-economic potential of the Congress, with expectations of increased tourism, investment, and business opportunities.

The government of Ghana, led by President John Dramani Mahana—a member of Assemblies of God Ghana—has pledged its support for the Congress.

The LOC has initiated strategic engagements with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Police Service, to ensure a successful event.

The 2026 World Congress is expected to attract thousands of delegates from over 190 countries, reinforcing Ghana’s position as a beacon of hope and a center for global Christian fellowship.

Special guests at the launch included Reverend Lipenga Banda, General Superintendent of

Assemblies of God Zambia; Reverend Ben Gousou Soujie, Chairman of the West Africa Assemblies of God Alliance and General Superintendent of Benin; and Reverend Professor Paul Frimpong-Manso, former General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana.
