Ghana international midfielder, Thomas Partey  has reportedly been denied entry into Canada, ruling him out of Ghana’s opening match at the FIFA World Cup.

According to reports, the decision prevents the midfielder from joining the squad in Toronto, where Ghana is scheduled to face Panama in their Group L opener at the .

The denial is said to stem from visa-related complications, with Canadian authorities refusing his entry despite his inclusion in Ghana’s official squad for the tournament. The development has created uncertainty around his availability for the early stages of the competition.

FIFA has clarified that immigration matters fall under the jurisdiction of host nations and are not controlled by the football governing body. This means individual countries retain the right to approve or deny entry to players and officials, even during major tournaments.

Reports also suggest the decision may be linked to ongoing legal proceedings involving the player, although no official confirmation has been provided by Canadian authorities or Partey’s representatives at this stage.

Ghana now faces a significant setback ahead of their tournament opener, with the coaching team expected to adjust their midfield plans in his absence.

Further updates are expected as the situation develops and as Ghana continues preparations for their World Cup campaign.
