The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Digital Centres Limited, Dzifa Gunu, has paid off the medical bills of a nursing mother who had been stranded for three months at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after delivering her baby.

The mother, Doris Ametepey, a resident of Odorkor, had remained at the hospital’s maternity ward for three months after being discharged because she was unable to clear her medical bills. Her situation worsened when her husband abandoned her and the newborn soon after delivery, leaving her helpless and confined to the ward.

Touched by her plight, Gunu made immediate arrangements for her bills to be settled, ensuring her prompt discharge and reunion with her family. The cash donation, made on behalf of the CEO by James Kanu Nartey-Oman, took place last Thursday at the hospital.

Receiving the support, a visibly emotional Ametepey expressed profound gratitude to Gunu for what she described as a divine intervention.

“I had no hope that any family member of mine could afford such huge medical bills. I kept praying for God’s help, and He has answered me through Mr Gunu,” she said tearfully.

She recounted that she had delivered her baby through a caesarean section and had endured months of distress and uncertainty while confined to the hospital.

She described her ordeal as depressing and appealed to well-meaning individuals and organisations to come to the aid of other mothers in similar situations.

Presenting the donation, Nartey-Oman, who represented the CEO, commended the medical staff of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for their compassion and continuous care for pregnant women and nursing mothers in need.

He noted that Gunu’s gesture formed part of his commitment to touching lives and promoting kindness and social responsibility beyond the digital sector.
