CID foils robbery attempt; two suspects arrested after high-speed chase in Accra

A swift intelligence-led operation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters has led to the arrest of two suspected robbers believed to be involved in a violent carjacking incident at Mpatasie near St. Anthony Hospital in the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025, when the suspects allegedly attacked a victim and forcibly seized an unregistered Hyundai Tucson.

According to police sources, intelligence gathered indicated that the suspects were fleeing Kumasi and heading toward Accra with the stolen vehicle.

Acting swiftly on this information, a CID team mounted an operation the following day, November 8, and spotted the Hyundai Tucson with four occupants along the Ofankor Barrier–St. John’s stretch of the Accra–Nsawam Highway.

When officers attempted to intercept the car, the suspects tried to speed off. Realising they had been surrounded, they abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. Police pursued and arrested two of them, while two others managed to flee.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Issaka Jamal, aged 30, and Kwadwo Badu, aged 43. Police confirmed that both men sustained injuries during the arrest — one suffered a gunshot wound and the other sustained minor injuries. They were taken to the Police Hospital, where they are said to be in stable condition and responding to treatment.

The police retrieved the stolen unregistered Hyundai Tucson, a customised number plate bearing “Congo-1-24,” cash amounting to GH₵5,900, and several documents and personal items from the vehicle.

The CID says efforts are underway to track down the remaining two suspects who are currently on the run.
