Week 8 Match Report – Asante Kotoko 4-2 Karela United

Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways in style, brushing aside Karela United 4-2 in an entertaining Ghana Premier League clash at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors, still reeling from their CAF Confederation Cup exit, delivered a confident and attacking performance despite the absence of key forward Albert Amoah, who recently joined Al Ahli Benghazi in Libya.

Midfielder Hubert Gyau set the tone early, blasting home the opener in the 6th minute before Bless Ege levelled for Karela. Gyau struck again with a thunderous effort from distance to restore Kotoko’s advantage, and Seth Kwadwo extended the lead with a powerful header just before halftime.

In the second half, Peter Amidu Acquah added a fourth from close range to seal the victory. Karela pulled one back in the 72nd minute, but Kotoko’s dominance was never in doubt as they controlled the game with 62% possession and created 10 total shots to Karela’s 4, registering 4 on target against the visitors’ 2.

The result keeps Kotoko unbeaten this season with 11 points from five games and three matches in hand. They now turn their focus to a high-stakes clash against Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium next weekend.

For Karela United, the defeat ends their three-game unbeaten run and serves as a reality check. They remain on 12 points from eight matches and will look to respond when they host Dreams FC in their next fixture.
