The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five additional suspects in connection with the murder of John Abban at Asemkor in the Agona Nkwanta District of the Western Region.

According to police sources, the arrests were made at different hideouts across the region as part of efforts to apprehend all persons involved in the brutal killing.

On Thursday, October 23, 2025, police arrested 50-year-old Kwabena Asirifi at his hideout at Ampataano, near Asemkor.

A report by adomonline.com on October 26, 2025, stated that the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate further arrested three others James Eshun, alias Abeiku (25), Joseph Aidoo, alias Moree (45), and Stephen Nyame, alias Joe (18) at Abuesi in the Shama District on Friday, October 24, 2025.

This comes after six other suspects were earlier picked up on October 18, 2025, at Ahuntumano near Butre, also within the Agona Nkwanta District.

All suspects have since been remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear before court on October 30, 2025.

The deceased, John Abban, brother of the chief of Butre and Asemkor, was reportedly attacked and murdered on October 6, 2025, amid a chieftaincy dispute in the community.

The perpetrators fled the area after the incident and went into hiding until their arrest.

Police have reiterated their commitment to pursuing all remaining suspects and ensuring that justice is served.
