Daniel Yao Domelevo is a former Auditor-General
Daniel Yao Domelevo a former Auditor-General, has accused some corrupt public officials of manipulating the judicial system to delay corruption trials until their political parties return to power, thereby ensuring the cases are dismissed.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on October 25, 2025, Domelevo alleged that certain politically exposed persons use their wealth and influence to “procure judges” and hire powerful lawyers to obstruct justice through endless adjournments and procedural delays.
“They can even procure judges. A judge may say, What I can do is to keep adjourning until your party comes to power; then the case will be thrown out,’” he alleged.
Domelevo, an anti-corruption crusader, said this practice has become one of the most dangerous threats to Ghana’s anti-corruption fight, as it allows accused persons to evade accountability and retain stolen state resources.
There’s a lot of ‘garbage’ in the data we received – Domelevo on ORAL
According to the former Auditor-General, the judiciary’s vulnerability to political and financial influence has made it nearly impossible to retrieve embezzled public funds or secure convictions in corruption-related cases.
He argued that the system has been deliberately designed to fail, with suspects exploiting Ghana’s partisan political cycle to outlast prosecutions.
“The goal is not to win the case on merit. The goal is to stretch the case across electoral cycles until a change of government allows it to collapse. The money is still in someone’s pocket and not in use. Justice delayed is justice denied.”
He called on Parliament to treat judicial reform as a matter of national urgency, insisting that without structural change, Ghana’s anti-corruption institutions will remain ineffective.
