The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) and former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has signaled his interest in contesting for the National Chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, he will only contest the seat if the incumbent, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, decides not to seek re-election.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on Tuesday, October 22, 2025, Vanderpuye clarified that his decision hinges entirely on Asiedu Nketiah’s next political move.

“If the current chairman, my very good brother Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, is not contesting, I will contest,” citinewsroom.com quoted him to have said.

His remarks come amid growing speculations within the NDC that Asiedu Nketiah, a long-serving party stalwart, may be considering a bid in the party’s presidential race ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The reports have reignited conversations within the NDC about possible successors to the veteran politician, who has held key leadership positions within the party for several decades, including serving as General Secretary before his elevation to National Chairman.

Vanderpuye, who also served as Minister of Youth and Sports under the first tenure of John Mahama’s administration, is widely regarded as a loyal party figure with extensive grassroots experience.
