The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has provided an update on the payment of arrears to road contractors in the country.
According to him, while speaking in an interview with Citi FM on October 14, 2025, payments have begun, indicating that GH¢5 billion out of the total GH¢21 billion owed by the government has been settled.

“As of Friday, the finance minister has also started the payment of, in total, about GH¢5bn owed to contractors out of the over GH¢21 billion,” he said.
Agbodza also intimated that an audit by the Auditor-General, conducted to validate the amounts owed to contractors and the supporting documents, revealed some infractions.
He explained that the amounts they were initially made to believe the government owed the contractors turned out to be inaccurate.
Agbodza said he will soon release a statement on the audit findings once Parliament resumes sittings.
“The process was that request for payment may not be exactly what it is, so, the Auditor-General and others carried out some validation of the payment and when Parliament reopens, I’ll be making a formal statement and tell you the outcome.

“Indeed, if we had rushed to pay, we would have thrown away part of your money because during the validation, it turned that some of the certificates, or the amounts that we were told we owe, it’s not exactly so,” he added.
