NPP Elder urges equal playing field for Election 2028 presidential hopefuls

By Dennis Peprah

Odomase, (Bono), Oct. 6, GNA-Mar Yaw Dabie Appiah, a member of the Bono Regional Council of Elders of New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region has urged the party leadership to ensure that the NPP’s Election 2028 presidential primary is conducted fairly, devoid of biases.

He said according to his assessment on the campaigns of the five presidential aspirants so far, the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamamdu Bawumia was tipped to win the party’s presidential primary, slated January 31, 2025.

The former Vice President is contesting the primary with Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Hon. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Engineer Kwabena Agyapong, and Dr Bryan Acheampong.

Mr Appiah told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Odomase in the Sunyani West constituency that various presidential aspirants of the party required equal playing fields in the electoral process, from campaign to voting, and counting to declaration of results.

He justified that the Ghanaian electorate preferred Alhaji Dr Bawumia to the other aspirants and reminded the NPP electorate that, “voting for any other hopeful than Bawumia will spell doom for the party in the Election 2028.”

Mr Appiah indicated that all the presidential hopefuls had the capacity to become the party’s 2028 flagbearer

“However, we must allow the interest of the Ghanaian voter to supersede our party interest to be able to win the next general election,” he cautioned.

He emphasised: “Presently Bawumia is the favourite of the Ghanaian electorate, and we must make informed decisions, endorse him to make it easier for the NPP to regain political power.”

The NPP leading member expressed the hope that all things being equal the delegates would not disappoint Alhaji Dr Bawumia, and the NPP in general, rather choose him to lead the party to a resounding victory in 2028.

The 75-year-old former Organiser of NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region, popularly known in the political space as “Orga’ also urged the presidential hopefuls to remain decorous in their campaigns of canvassing votes of the party’s delegates.

He emphasised that the NPP required clean campaigns from the aspirants to build a formidable force after the primary for the Election 2024.
