The former Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has officially declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position.

In an interview with The 1967 News, he reflected on his journey in public service and reaffirmed his commitment to educational transformation and national development.

He recounted that his return from the United States to join the Akufo-Addo-led administration was driven by a deep sense of duty and a desire to serve Ghana.

“Eight years ago, I served as Deputy Minister and later as Minister for Education. During that period and beyond, I received countless praises from Ghanaians who appreciated the strides we made in the education sector,” he said.

“While in California, I had the opportunity to open schools and was recently honoured for my service. It was then that President Akufo-Addo invited me to come back home and contribute to the national agenda,” he added.

Dr Adutwum stated that his decision to contest is motivated by a desire to sustain the gains made by the NPP government.

“As the party opens nominations for the flagbearership, I wish to announce that I will contest,” he declared.

He also expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in him over the years.

“I know you have faith in me, and I will not disappoint you. All is not lost; the future of Ghana is in our hands,” he said.

His announcement comes just a day after the New Patriotic Party officially scheduled its presidential primaries for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
