The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that temporary staff who worked during the 2024 general elections will receive their allowances by June 20, 2025.

This announcement comes after a prolonged delay of seven months, bringing relief to the affected staff.

In a letter addressed to the temporary staff on June 12, the EC assured that payments would be made on or before Friday, June 20.

Earlier reports on June 12 highlighted mounting public complaints and protests from unpaid staff, with some expressing their frustrations on live radio.

The commission has now confirmed that it has received funds from the Ministry of Finance to facilitate these payments.

“I bring you greetings from the Electoral Commission and trust that this letter finds you well. We are pleased to inform you that the Ministry of Finance has today, Thursday, June 12, 2025, released funds for the payment of temporary staff,” stated the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa.

According to Jean Mensa, the commission is working diligently to ensure prompt payment to the temporary staff.

She added that they can expect to receive their allowances by June 20, 2025.

The expected disbursement aims to bring closure to the prolonged delay and offer a much-needed boost to the affected individuals.

“The Commission is working around the clock to ensure that payments are made promptly. Temporary staff should expect to receive their allowances on or before Friday, June 20, 2025. We thank you for your patience and cooperation,” stated the letter, signed by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa.

The EC has reiterated its commitment to processing payments promptly.

In her letter, Mensa expressed gratitude for the staff’s patience and cooperation throughout this period.
