Ahmed Ibrahim is the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs
The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has assured of his commitment to ensuring that there is transparency and accountability for any funds that are allocated to the Ghanaian economy by the Swiss government.
According to the minister, the Swiss have been consistent in assisting Ghana in various sectors, including local government, energy and climate.
Speaking during the launch of the Ghana Country Programme 2025-2028 on June 5, 2025, he said “We are launching the Swiss cooperation program for 2025 to 2028 which is a four-year program, and you know the Swiss Secretary for Economic Affairs, SECO, has been of immense support to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, together with other ministries. They have supported what they’ve been giving to us, and they have planned these things for four years.”
He noted, however, that despite Ghana and Switzerland having gone through the first two phases of the partnership, the next phase will be characterised by transparency.
“But the interesting thing is that they are interested in the kind of renewed strength and vigour, the renewed accountability and commitment in our decentralisation system. So, because of that, all their support that they withdrew from the previous administration, they are bringing those things back because they having, they now have trust and confidence in the strategies that are working,” he said.
Ibrahim also added that “As a minister, that has given me a new hope that whatever commitment or pledge that we have made, if we are able to follow it and deliver on our promise, those Democratic Watchers and Development Partners who are also watching us will also come and support us.”
