Cristiano Ronaldo (kneeling on the pitch) was elated following Portugal’s feat
The captain of the Portugal national team, Cristiano Ronaldo, was overcome with emotion following Portugal’s triumph over Spain to win their second UEFA Nations League trophy.
The football great scored in the second half to level the game at 2-2, sending it to extra time as both teams battled for supremacy.
The Real Madrid legend was substituted as extra time approached and sat on the bench, holding himself up in anticipation, hoping for a positive result.
During the penalty shootout, Ronaldo stood behind one of his teammates, burying his face in his back and avoiding the action.
After João Neves scored the winner, the Portuguese players jumped onto the legend, celebrating with him; however, he initially remained kneeling on the pitch with his hands on his face, seemingly shedding tears of joy.
Then, the Al Nassr forward stood up and joined his teammates and coaching staff in celebrating the title win.
Portugal defeated Spain 5-3 on penalties to win their second UEFA Nations League trophy, following their inaugural edition win in 2019.
Ronaldo finished the tournament as one of the top goal scorers, finishing second with 8 goals behind Viktor Gyökeres.
He reiterated that he remains committed to the national team and has no plans to retire as long as he stays fit.
