The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Nana Agyemang Badu II, had the crowd in stitches when he playfully told President John Dramani Mahama, “If the dollar ever drops to 8 cedis under your watch, I’ll carry you on my back and run a whole kilometer—for free!”

This lighthearted moment happened during Mahama’s “Thank You” tour stop in Dormaa on Friday, May 30, 2025.

But behind the laughter was a subtle nod of approval. The traditional ruler acknowledged the recent gains the Ghanaian cedi has made, especially in the face of global economic challenges.

“The way things are going, I wouldn’t be surprised if you actually do it,” Dormaahene teased, drawing cheers and laughter from the gathering.

While his comment was wrapped in humour, it was also a way of giving Mahama credit for the relative stability of the cedi in recent times—gains that many believe have come from stronger fiscal policies and investor confidence.
