The Ministry of Energy has dismissed recent calls from the Minority in Parliament for the publication of a load management timetable amid ongoing power outages, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor’.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 19, the Ministry, through its Spokesperson and Head of Communications, Richmond Rockson, Esq., emphasized that Ghana’s current power generation capacity is adequate to meet national demand, including during peak periods.
“Whilst acknowledging that we inherited an extremely challenged distribution system, the government and the power sector players continue to take the needed steps to permanently resolve these challenges.”
The Ministry further stated that there is no justification for a load-shedding timetable at this time.
“The current power generation capacity is sufficient to meet peak demand; hence there is no basis for a load-shedding timetable at this time,” the Ministry stated.
Reaffirming the government’s dedication to ensuring stable electricity supply, the Ministry assured Ghanaians of its commitment to addressing distribution issues and sustaining consistent power delivery.
“The Government remains committed to the consistent provision of electricity to the Ghanaian people,” the statement said.
