Konongo-Odumasi (Ash), May 19, GNA – Rev. Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, the President’s nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asante-Akim Central, has been unanimously endorsed by members of the Assembly.
He received a resounding endorsement from all 35 Assembly Members, who voted “yes” to confirm his appointment.
Dr. Aidoo was the parliamentary candidate for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general elections.
Ahead of the MCE confirmation, the Assembly also elected Mr. Alex Nyarko, Assembly Member for Obenimase Electoral Area as the Presiding Member (PM) after two rounds of voting.
In the first round, Mr. Nyarko contested against Mr. Frank Effah Bonsu, polling 23 votes to Mr. Bonsu’s 12, failing to meet the two-thirds majority required by law.
Following extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including traditional leaders and the Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, Mr. Bonsu stepped down.
This led to a second round of voting, where members were asked to vote “yes” or “no” on Mr. Nyarko.
He secured 33 out of 35 votes, representing 94 percent in his favour.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Aidoo expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Assembly Members for their trust and support.
He pledged to run an open and inclusive administration where all stakeholders have a voice in the development process.
“The overwhelming support I have received reflects a unified assembly determined to work together for the collective progress of our people,” he said.
Dr. Aidoo assured the Assembly of his unwavering commitment to collaborate closely with them in improving the lives of residents across Asante-Akim Central.
