Act swiftly on Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar gift controversy

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take immediate and decisive action in response to the controversy involving the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, following the circulation of a viral video showing him handing U.S. dollar bills to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

At a press conference held on Tuesday, May 13, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye condemned what he described as reckless behaviour by Mr. Gyamfi and urged President Mahama to take the matter seriously.

“We call on President Mahama to show leadership to act swiftly, decisively, and not give Sammy Gyamfi a pat on his back for this reckless conduct,” he stated.

Mr. Boakye went further to accuse the Gold Board CEO of breaching the President’s Code of Conduct for political appointees, insisting that the conduct in question erodes public trust and demands accountability.

“Unsurprisingly, Sammy Gyamfi, like an incorrigible child, has blatantly violated both obligations under the Code and the President must in accordance with Section 6 and his pledge at page 9 of the Code, deal swiftly and decisively with Sammy Gyamfi for the breach,” he said.

He also called on the Mahama administration to enforce compliance with legal and ethical standards among political office holders, stressing the importance of separating political activities from official government responsibilities.

“We urge the current government to take immediate steps to rectify this situation by ensuring that all public officers, especially those holding political positions, comply with the relevant legal provisions. The clear delineation of political roles and governmental functions will reinforce the credibility of the administration and strengthen public confidence in the democratic process,” he added.

The NPP’s call comes amid growing public debate over ethics, accountability, and transparency within the public sector.
