Former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has highlighted the significant financial growth of the power distributor, comparing its revenue performance to telecommunications giant MTN.

Speaking on Asaase Radio, Mahama revealed that ECG’s monthly earnings have soared from approximately GH¢500 million to a staggering GH¢1.5 billion.

“ECG should not be perceived as a small-scale enterprise. It is one of the largest businesses in the country today,” he emphasized. “If you look at its current revenue stream, it now matches what companies like MTN generate.”

He attributed this remarkable increase to strategic operational changes implemented under his leadership.

“When I assumed office, revenue hovered around GH¢450 million to GH¢500 million, and in exceptional months, it reached GH¢700 million. Today, that figure has tripled to GH¢1.5 billion. This was achieved by transforming the way ECG operates,” he explained.

Mahama also defended ECG’s pricing model and extensive infrastructure developments, urging a more strategic discussion on the company’s financial management rather than focusing solely on reports of missing containers.

His remarks come amid ongoing debates about ECG’s operational challenges and revenue collection efficiency.
