“Even If He Is After Us, We Will Show Him Love” – Minority Caucus Declares Support for AG

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has reaffirmed his caucus’s commitment to supporting the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, despite actions taken against members of their party as reported by Ghana Web.

Addressing Parliament on Friday, March 28, 2025, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the need to prioritize national interests over political differences, stressing that the Attorney General requires the necessary resources to fulfill his mandate.

“He has been very cooperative, and we know his capabilities,” he stated while urging MPs to expedite the approval of the Attorney General’s budget to ensure the smooth running of his office.

According to him, both the Minority and the Majority Caucuses recognize the Attorney General’s contributions and remain committed to ensuring he gets the necessary support, even if his office pursues legal actions against some of their members.

“Even if he is after us, we will still show him love,” Afenyo-Markin reiterated.

Meanwhile, Parliament is set to conclude its first session today, marking the end of the first meeting of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

The House is expected to finalize the approval of the 2025 budget and consider several key legislative proposals, including the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) Bill.

Other major bills scheduled for passage include amendments to the Public Financial Management Act, the Minerals Income Investment Fund Act, and the Petroleum Revenue Management Act.

Additionally, this session saw the passage of laws aimed at repealing certain taxes, in line with the campaign promises of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Parliament is expected to adjourn indefinitely at the close of today’s proceedings ahead of the Easter holidays.
