Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase/Ayirebi, has revealed a shocking incident that occurred during a parliamentary committee meeting last night, when a group of thugs infiltrated the chamber and launched an attack on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). This unprecedented breach of security has raised serious concerns about the safety of lawmakers and the integrity of parliamentary proceedings in Ghana.
Oppong Nkrumah described the incident to the press, explaining how individuals disguised as guests managed to blend into the meeting. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “I don’t know if you were present last night, but we witnessed thugs attacking members of Parliament during a committee meeting. This is a serious matter that cannot be overlooked.” The attack escalated to the point where police had to intervene to ensure the safety of the MPs present. “It was only through the swift action of the police that our leadership was safely removed from the chamber,” he explained.
In the aftermath of the attack, Oppong Nkrumah expressed concern about the potential long-term implications of such violence in the halls of governance. He underscored the need for cooperation among members to ensure the safety of parliamentarians, stressing that such an event should never happen again.
The incident has sparked outrage among the public, with video footage showing chaotic scenes inside the chamber, where thugs openly threatened MPs. Oppong Nkrumah also pointed out that some of the attackers identified their regions, raising questions about the motivations behind the attack. In response, he called for immediate action to strengthen security measures within Parliament to prevent future incidents and ensure lawmakers’ safety.
