Prominent investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas brought a case against former Ghanaian parliamentarian, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, in the U.S. State of New Jersey. The lawsuit originated when Agyapong accused Anas of murdering another journalist following the airing of a documentary on corruption in the country.
Anas’s case was first dismissed by a Ghanaian court, a decision that was upheld by the country’s Supreme Court. The journalist then sought reprieve at a court in the U.S. where the accused is said to have properties.
The U.S. court ruled the complaint suffered “severe emotional distress; because he had to field mortifying questions from former clients, agents, business associates, and family members, who reside all over the world including the City of West Orange in the State of New Jersey”.
