How Kennedy Agyapong Campaigned Against Me While I Was Pregnant With His Child – Adwoa Safo Speaks

According to a report from GhanaWeb, former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has disclosed that Kennedy Agyapong did not support her during the 2007 primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and instead backed Professor Mike Oquaye, even though she was expecting his child at the time.

During an interview on Movement TV on March 19, 2025, she was asked whether she would endorse Kennedy Agyapong’s bid for the NPP’s leadership.

In response, she affirmed her support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasizing that her political decisions are guided by her beliefs rather than personal relationships.

She explained that during her first attempt at securing the party’s nomination, Kennedy Agyapong actively campaigned for Professor Mike Oquaye.

However, in her second term, he offered his assistance with her campaign.

When she sought re-election for a third term, he once again threw his support behind Oquaye Jnr.

“Do you know that during my first primary. Kennedy Agyapong campaigned for Professor Mike Oquaye? In 2007, he was on every platform campaigning for Professor Mike Oquaye while I was pregnant with his child. It was only in my second term that he helped me with my campaign. And in my third term, he again campaigned for Oquaye Jnr. So, I also have my preference,” she said.

She reiterated that this history underscores the idea that political choices are personal and should not be influenced by family connections.

Although he initially did not back her, she acknowledged that he later provided support in subsequent elections.

In the 2024 NPP primaries, Adwoa Safo was unsuccessful in her bid for re-election, losing to Mike Oquaye Jnr.

He later failed to retain the Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary seat for the party in the general elections, as the NDC candidate emerged victorious.
