P.K. Sarpong, a writer for the opposition NPP, has alleged that former deputy executive director of the National Service Scheme, Gifty Oware-Mensah, was detained for her wristwatch and asked to provide receipt of it.
P.K Sarpong made this comment in a post shared on his Facebook page on 7th March, 2025. He wrote:
“Let it not be twisted by anyone that we are saying that if Gifty Oware-Mensah has flouted the laws of the land, same ought to be ignored by the agencies responsible to ensure that she has her day in court.Â
What we find appalling is this ‘novel’ thing introduced by the NIB. She was detained for her wristwatch and was asked to provide the receipt covering its purchase.Â
What this means is that, in future, appointees of this current administration would also be subjected to the same scrutiny as it’s happening today.”
According to P.K Sarpong, it would also be interpreted to mean that an appointee like Joyce Bawa Mogtari would be treated the same way in future.
He added that Joyce Bawah Mogtari, hitherto, was seen brandishing laptop bags and students’ bags as handbags or dressing bags.Â
Ll”As soon as her cousin, H. E. JDM won the 2024 elections and she was named as an appointee, she has started buying Versace, Tony Burch, Georgio Armani, Gucci, Saint Laurent bags, etc.Â
When they leave office, she could also be picked up and questioned about the prices and her source of income to buy such expensive items. They should continue on this tangent. Tomorrow is another day.” P.K Sarpong added.
