Alhaji Amadu Sulley, a former Deputy Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), has passed away.

He died in the afternoon of Saturday, March 1, 2025, as reported by 3news.com.

His burial rites are scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2025, in accordance with Islamic custom.

A statement from his family, cited by 3news on March 1, announced his passing and invited Muslim brothers and sisters, friends, and loved ones to participate in the burial processes.

The rites will take place at his residence and the Madina Muslim Cemetery in Accra.

“Fortunately, Alhaji Amadu Sulley passed away with fasting (1st day of Ramadan). To Allah be the glory. May Allah forgive him and grant all our departed souls jannat firdaus,” the statement noted.

Amadu Sulley served as the Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations at the EC until his removal from office in June 2018. He was dismissed by President Nana Akufo-Addo alongside then-Chairperson Charlotte Osei and another deputy, Georgina Opoku Amankwaa, following a probe into allegations of misconduct and incompetence.

His tenure at the EC included overseeing operational aspects of the 2016 general election, though it was marked by controversy stemming from internal disputes and accusations of financial impropriety.

Sulley’s death occurred on the first day of Ramadan, a detail highlighted by his family as a significant aspect of his passing.

Further details about the cause of his death have not been disclosed.
