The Ministry of Interior has renewed the curfew hours on Walewale and its environs from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm upon advice from the North East Regional Security Council.
The curfew was imposed on the area following the surged cases of gun attacks on passengers and burning of buses in the Walewale-Wulugu enclave of the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway.
Between February 11 and February 15, about 13 travellers including an infant were killed with three buses burned to ashes in those areas, prompting the Ministry of Interior to impose a curfew.
Though the curfew hours imposed on the area were resisted by residents of the area, citing military brutalities among others, the Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has renewed the curfew hours effective February 22, 2025.
