Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Ghana’s newly appointed Minister of Defence, has received congratulations from the European Union (EU) Delegation to Ghana following his recent nomination.

He was officially sworn into office last week by President John Dramani Mahama, marking the beginning of his tenure in overseeing Ghana’s defence and security affairs.

In a gesture of support, the EU reaffirmed its commitment as a reliable security partner to Ghana.

Over the years, the European Union has built a strong partnership with Ghana, focusing on peace, security, and defence. The EU has played a crucial role in enhancing Ghana’s military capabilities and contributing to regional stability.

As part of this ongoing collaboration, the EU has provided essential military equipment tailored to Ghana’s security needs.

This support has significantly strengthened the operational capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces, enabling them to better address emerging security threats.

The new Minister of Defence is expected to engage with the EU delegation at the end of February to finalize the delivery of additional military equipment.

This initiative is part of a €50 million programme aimed at bolstering Ghana’s defence infrastructure.

With shared strategic objectives, the partnership between Ghana and the EU is expected to deepen further, enhancing security not only for Ghana but also for the broader West African region.
