According to reports from Citi News, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has indicated that, although he serves as the leader of the opposition in Parliament, he is currently allowing the government some flexibility to operate without facing significant resistance.
He believes that the time for a more assertive opposition has not yet come.
In an appearance on Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Afenyo-Markin reflected on the strong opposition his party encountered during their time in government, particularly noting how the National Democratic Congress (NDC) made governance challenging with their persistent opposition.
He remarked that he is currently providing the government a chance to establish itself, emphasizing that he has not yet begun any substantial opposition.
“At a point, the NDC put up a posture. It’s difficult to be in government. Now, I’m giving them a breather. I haven’t started any opposition yet. No, no. I’m not opposed to them oh.
“I have given them a great moment to start their government,” he stated.
Additionally, he praised Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga for his diplomatic skills and his ability to promote cooperation between the Majority and Minority groups in Parliament.
Afenyo-Markin acknowledged Ayariga’s effective discussions that contributed to a recent apology from the government.
