President John Mahama’s establishment of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team and the appointment of Malik Basintale is the highest form of endorsing vigilantism. That is according to Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Okere Constituency.
He made this pronouncement while speaking on Accra-based Adom FM.
President Mahama’s ORAL initiative is tasked with collecting data and gathering information on suspected corruption and validating information regarding stolen public funds, lands, and properties.
The committee has reportedly received over 700 petitions from the public, signalling strong citizen engagement with the effort.
However, according to Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, ORAL is partly responsible for the post-election violence experienced in the country after the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. He pointed out that the actions of ORAL have to transcend beyond its mandate, compelling the grassroots of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to also take the laws into their own hands.
He cited an example of a car which was mistakenly seized from an appointee of President Nana Addo Dankwa, showcasing that ORAL has not defined within its boundaries.
Meanwhile, Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth further slammed John Dramani Mahama for his appointment of Malik Basintale.
Malik Basintale has been appointed as the Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
Mr. Basintale, a dynamic figure in Ghanaian politics and one of the most prominent voices during last year’s December 7 Presidential Election campaign, officially assumed his new role on Monday, January 27, 2025.
