A Ghanaian man living in the diaspora, Nii Awuley Addico, has taken to social media to lament on the high cost of products and services in Ghana during the Detty December festivities.

In several videos posted on his TikTok page, the gentleman is seen questioning the sudden rise in prices at bars, restaurants, clubs and entertainments centers across the city.

GTA Deputy CEO hails global spotlight on Ghana’s ‘Detty December’ on CGTN

“I want to ask all the lounges and pubs and clubs for Accra; I want to ask you people a question, what the f**k is a service charge? Why you go pay VAT, NHIL, COVID-Levy, tourism levy, and still pay a service charge?” he questioned, calling it a daylight robbery.

He further added that these institutions are slowly jeopardising the experience of the Ghanaian Detty December due to over-pricing and unnecessary bill additions.

“What you people don’t realise is you people are destroying the experience of the Detty December due to over-charging and greed and we the people patronising you, slowly, we are learning sense,” he added.

Nii Awuley added that festive seasons are supposed to be a time of reunion and bonding with friends and family, not a period for customers to be exploited.

The videos have since sparked conversations on the internet, with some local inhabitants laying their woes on the general high cost of living in the country.

Detty December has gradually become a major part of Christmas in Ghana, attracting thousands of people across the world to come experience Ghana.
