Was It A Plan? Gachagua Leaves Kenyans Talking After He Was Spotted Laughing With These People

On Sunday morning, DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua was spotted in the company of Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

According to those who saw them, the three were laughing and chatting like old friends, a sight that quickly found its way onto social media timelines.

The scene has surprised many, coming barely a week after Gachagua publicly criticised other opposition figures over their remarks about him.

At the time, the exchange left the impression that the opposition was deeply divided, and reports of a meeting between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Gachagua that allegedly ended without agreement only added to that picture.

Seeing the three leaders in such a relaxed mood has raised fresh questions. Some Kenyans are asking whether the public fallout was real or simply a calculated move meant to mislead the government.

Those who hold this view argue that a camp seen as fractured may be underestimated by its rivals, giving it room to organise quietly ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Others are not convinced. They say politicians often put on a friendly face in public even when serious disagreements remain behind closed doors, and that a few shared laughs do not settle the question of who will carry the opposition’s flag.

The issues that reportedly caused friction, including the choice of a presidential candidate and working relationships among leaders, have not been publicly resolved.

For now, none of the three has explained what the meeting was about. Until they do, the image of the leaders laughing together will keep fuelling debate on whether the opposition is truly divided or playing a longer game.
