Soweto Residents Reject DA’s Election Campaign as ANC Councillors Win Wards 47 and 48

The African National Congress (ANC) has taken a swipe at the Democratic Alliance (DA), accusing the party of showing renewed interest in Soweto and service delivery in black communities only during election season.

In a politically charged statement, the ANC criticised the DA for what it described as last-minute efforts to win over residents through election campaigning and promises of improved service delivery. The party also questioned the DA’s sudden focus on communities it alleged had previously received limited attention.

According to the ANC, residents of Soweto’s Wards 47 and 48 were not persuaded by the DA’s campaign and instead chose candidates they believed would represent their interests.

The party celebrated the election of Kabelo Moatshe and Kgadi Mogatusi as councillors in the respective wards, describing the results as a clear reflection of residents’ preferences.

The ANC congratulated the newly elected councillors, saying the outcome demonstrated that voters had made their decisions despite the DA’s campaign efforts.

The statement was accompanied by the slogans “Unfinished Business” and “Operation Fix Joburg”, signalling the party’s continued focus on addressing service delivery challenges in Johannesburg.

The ANC’s remarks also highlighted the political contest between the two parties as they seek to strengthen their support in Soweto and other communities across Johannesburg.
