AWA Denies Aircraft Emergency, Reveals What Was Happening on Board
Africa World Airlines (AWA) has dismissed social media reports claiming that one of its aircraft experienced a technical fault at Kumasi Airport, leading to the evacuation of passengers.
The airline described the claims as misleading and insisted that no such incident had occurred.
In a statement released on November 7, 2026, AWA identified the aircraft featured in the reports as its Embraer E190, which commenced demonstration flights on November 5, 2026.
The airline explained that the flights formed part of a mandatory regulatory process supervised by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
The exercise is required to be completed before the aircraft can be cleared to operate scheduled commercial services.
AWA further clarified that the demonstration flights were conducted exclusively with flight crew members and GCAA inspectors on board.
It maintained that no passengers were involved in the exercise, dismissing claims that travellers had been evacuated from the aircraft.
The airline explained that demonstration flights are a routine safety and regulatory procedure for introducing a new aircraft type into commercial operations, allowing aviation authorities to assess its operational readiness and compliance with safety requirements.
“Demonstration flights are a standard part of introducing a new aircraft type into service, and are conducted under GCAA oversight to confirm operational readiness and safety,” the statement said.
AWA urged the public and media organisations to disregard the graphic circulating on social media, encouraging them to obtain accurate information about its operations through the airline’s official communication channels.
The airline also cautioned against the deliberate circulation of false information, indicating that it could take appropriate action against individuals found to be knowingly spreading misleading reports.
