Being A Good Performer And Getting The Crowd To Sing Along Is Not About Inviting Men On Stage—Bongo

Ghanaian social commentator Albert Nat Hyde, popularly known as Bongo Ideas, has criticised musician Sista Afia over her stage performances, urging her to place greater emphasis on her music and talent rather than what he considers excessive sensual displays.

In a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Bongo Ideas took issue with the singer’s alleged practice of inviting male fans onto the stage for physical interactions, including grinding and other suggestive acts.

He argued that musicians should focus on delivering quality songs, bringing energy to their performances and showcasing their artistic abilities instead of relying heavily on such displays to entertain audiences.

“Make good music, bring the energy and let your talent speak!” Bongo Ideas wrote, reiterating his view that musical talent should remain the main attraction during live performances.

The commentator also criticised what he described as the frequent use of twerking and romantic interactions in Sista Afia’s performances. He suggested that these elements had become too prominent in her stage presentation, potentially overshadowing her music.

In a sarcastic comparison, Bongo Ideas likened the possibility of Sista Afia performing without the displays he criticised to expecting rapper Sarkodie to organise a GH₵100,000 giveaway. The remark was intended to highlight what he perceives as a recurring feature of the singer’s performances.

He further referred to Sista Afia as “Buokrom Nicki Minaj” and encouraged her to deliver shows that focus more on her musical abilities than on what he called “relationship auditions.”

His comments have contributed to the broader conversation about stagecraft, artistic freedom and audience engagement in Ghana’s music industry. The criticism also reflects differing opinions on how performers should balance sensuality, showmanship and musical quality when entertaining audiences.
