Mariga, 6 other officials expelled by Football Kenya Federation General Assembly
Vice-President McDonald MarigaThe Football Kenya Federation (FKF) General Assembly has resolved to expel seven members of its National Executive Committee (NEC), including Vice-President McDonald Mariga Wanyama, following a Special General Meeting held in Meru on Saturday.
In a statement dated November 7, the federation said the decision followed deliberations on allegations of violations of the FKF Constitution.
Those expelled include Mariga, Central NEC Member Robert Kenneth Macharia, Upper Rift Valley NEC Member Bernard Korir Lagat, FKF Women Representative Violet Kerubo Momanyi, Nyanza NEC Member Collins Opiyo Kalee, Coast NEC Member Gabriel Mghendi and Nairobi NEC Member Daniel Akala Shikanda.
The General Assembly said the matters considered included a purported NEC resolution dated April 24, 2026, seeking the removal of the FKF President and other federation officials.
The federation also alleged that the seven officials had repeatedly failed to attend duly convened NEC meetings, engaged in unauthorised communication on behalf of the federation and undertaken actions that allegedly violated the FKF Constitution and applicable football regulations.
The federation said the General Assembly exercised its mandate under Articles 16 and 24 of the FKF Constitution, which provide for the expulsion of members and dismissal of NEC officials.
The meeting was attended by representatives of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), alongside Acting Sports Registrar Chacha J. Maroa and representatives of the State Department for Sports.
FKF said it remained committed to constitutional governance, institutional accountability and stability in football administration in Kenya.
The federation added that it would communicate further on the implementation of the resolutions and the resulting administrative arrangements.
Earlier, chaos had rocked the venue of the Special General Meeting (SGM).
During the incident, officers from the Police Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) moved into the venue and discharged tear gas into the meeting room where delegates were seated, awaiting the start of proceedings.
The federation said the incident had disrupted a constitutional process convened by members of the FKF General Assembly in exercise of their mandate under the FKF Constitution.
