Lagos Consumer Protection Agency Resolves Over 10,000 Complaints And Secures ₦759m In Redress
The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency successfully secured over seven hundred and fifty-nine million naira and nearly fifteen thousand dollars in consumer redress while resolving ten thousand seven hundred and twenty complaints over a six-year operational period.
According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Friday, November 6, 2026, while detailing these extensive achievements, the agency noted that its mediation department received eleven thousand one hundred and twenty total complaints spanning various commercial sectors across the state.
General Manager Afolabi Solebo explained that these successful interventions resulted in vital billing adjustments, financial refunds, and other necessary forms of consumer redress for residents who encountered various forms of exploitation within the marketplace.
To improve accessibility and bring effective complaint management closer to the grassroots, the agency strategically established and equipped eight different annex offices across various local government areas throughout Lagos State.
Beyond direct mediation efforts, enforcement teams issued four hundred and thirty-seven notices of non-compliance to various retail outlets and supermarkets following rigorous market surveillance exercises targeting deceptive advertising and price disclosure violations.
Public awareness campaigns were significantly intensified through local radio programs, community engagements, and social media platforms to properly educate residents about their fundamental consumer rights regarding product safety and fair market value.
The agency generated more than twenty million naira for the state government between January and September, easily exceeding its annual revenue target by over one hundred percent through improved institutional capacity.
