Why I’m fighting Davido, Zlatan – VeryDarkMan
VeryDarkMan Spread the wordSocial media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has explained the reasons behind his fallout with Nigerian singers Davido and Zlatan Ibile, linking the disagreements to the campaign for justice for late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
VeryDarkMan made the disclosure in a video shared on his social media page, where he recounted how his involvement in the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death contributed to the breakdown of his relationships with the two entertainers.
The activist said his disagreements with the singers were rooted in issues surrounding the campaign for justice for Mohbad, who died in September 2023.
He explained that his initial involvement in the controversy centred on questioning singer Naira Marley over allegations made by Mohbad concerning his former record label, Marlian Records.
According to him, his efforts to seek answers about the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death eventually brought him into conflict with some individuals within the entertainment industry.
How his relationship with Davido deteriorated
Recounting how he became acquainted with Davido, VeryDarkMan said their relationship started in 2024 after the award-winning singer followed him on social media.
He described the development as exciting, considering Davido’s international profile, adding that they subsequently became friendly.
The activist said he regularly promoted Davido’s music whenever the singer released new songs, while their private conversations also contributed to their growing relationship.
However, he alleged that their relationship began to deteriorate after he obtained a WhatsApp group conversation which he claimed involved people associated with Davido.
VeryDarkMan alleged that the conversation contained discussions about his arrest in 2024, when he was detained for several weeks before being transferred to Kuje Correctional Centre.
He claimed that some individuals within the group were connected to efforts that resulted in his arrest because of his persistent campaign over Mohbad’s death.
The activist said he subsequently contacted Davido to seek clarification about the alleged involvement of people around the singer in the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
According to him, Davido did not answer his calls, a development he described as disappointing given their previous relationship.
He also alleged that a blog subsequently accused him of attempting to record a telephone conversation with Davido for blackmail purposes.
VeryDarkMan denied the allegation, maintaining that he only wanted an explanation from the singer.
He described the development as a betrayal, questioning why people allegedly associated with Davido would be involved in discussions surrounding his arrest.
Speaking about Zlatan Ibile, VeryDarkMan accused the rapper of failing to demonstrate sufficient support during the initial campaign for justice for Mohbad.
He also questioned Zlatan’s involvement in the controversy, alleging that the rapper used the attention surrounding the late singer’s death to promote their collaborative song, ‘Account Balance’.
The activist expressed displeasure over what he considered an inappropriate approach to the campaign, arguing that the focus should have remained on seeking answers about Mohbad’s death.
He further criticised the relationship between Davido and Zlatan, saying he was uncomfortable with their association amid the disagreements.
VeryDarkMan maintained that his grievances against both entertainers were connected to the events surrounding the Mohbad controversy and his subsequent arrest.
‘Justice for Mohbad brought us together and divided us’
Reflecting on the situation, the activist said the same issue that initially brought him closer to Davido eventually contributed to their disagreement.
“One thing that brought us together is the same thing that divided us, right? What is it? Justice for Mohbad,” he said.
He maintained that his involvement in the campaign was motivated by his demand for accountability over the late singer’s death.
The activist also alleged that some individuals involved in the controversy were more interested in settling personal scores with Naira Marley than pursuing justice for Mohbad.
He said he no longer wished to maintain the relationships he previously shared with Davido and Zlatan.
However, the allegations made by VeryDarkMan concerning the singers and people associated with them had not been independently established, and neither Davido nor Zlatan had publicly responded to his latest claims at the time of reporting.
