Chelle invites Norwegian-based midfielder, Four others to Olympic Eagles
According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria on Friday, November 6, 2026, Nigeria U-23 head coach Eric Chelle has invited Norwegian-based midfielder Daniel Daga and four other foreign-based players to the Olympic Eagles ahead of their upcoming 2027 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Daga tops the list of new foreign-based players contacted by the Franco-Malian tactician as he continues to strengthen his squad for the two-legged encounter.
The former Flying Eagles midfielder, who currently plays in Norway, is among five additional foreign-based players approached by Chelle to join the team.
The development comes after the coach released 18 players from the initial group of 30 home-based footballers invited for early preparations in Nigeria, making room for the arrival of overseas-based professionals.
The invited players are expected to report to the team’s camp in Nigeria before the weekend or join the squad in the Democratic Republic of Congo ahead of the first leg next week.
However, the report noted that some of the foreign-based players contacted by Chelle were yet to receive their official travel tickets.
Chelle is keen to assemble a competitive squad capable of overcoming DR Congo and securing Nigeria’s passage to the next round of the 2027 U-23 AFCON qualifiers.
The first leg is scheduled to take place in Lubumbashi on November 13, while the return fixture will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on November 17.
The aggregate winner will advance to the final qualifying round of the U-23 AFCON, which will also serve as Africa’s qualification tournament for the men’s football event at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
