The Oyo State Police Command has intervened in the disagreement surrounding the burial arrangements of late Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, after his wife, father and other associates signed a peace undertaking.

The development followed growing tension between members of the singer’s family and his associates over where his remains should be laid to rest. The disagreement drew considerable public attention, especially after different accounts of the burial plans circulated on social media.

According to reports, the parties signed the undertaking on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the Oyo State Police Command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, after the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbeng, intervened.

Those involved included Toluwanisings’ wife, Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola; his father, Muniru Olayemi; and some of his friends and associates, including Oyindamola Esther, Babadunni Gbolabo and Lawal Ademola Rafiu. His personal assistant and other representatives were also present.

The police intervention became necessary after the disagreement reportedly generated allegations of conspiracy, defamation of character and concerns about actions capable of disturbing public peace.

Police Step In to Prevent Further Tension

In a statement issued by the police spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, the command explained that the Commissioner of Police received information about the disagreement on October 28.

Following the development, he directed that the parties be invited to the command headquarters for discussions aimed at preventing further escalation and finding an amicable resolution.

The police said the decision was taken in the interest of public safety and to ensure that the disagreement did not develop into a more serious situation.

Under the peace undertaking, all parties agreed to maintain peace, demonstrate good behaviour and avoid any action capable of causing tension or disturbing public order.

They also agreed to discontinue public exchanges, interviews and discussions that could worsen the disagreement surrounding the singer’s death and burial arrangements.

Another important part of the agreement concerns the circulation of information about the dispute.

According to the police, the parties agreed to stop publishing allegations, statements and other information relating to the matter through social media, blogs, radio, newspapers and other communication platforms.

The agreement also extends to their friends, representatives, agents and associates, who are expected to avoid making or promoting publications capable of reigniting the disagreement.

The Commissioner of Police warned that everyone involved must respect the undertaking. He also cautioned against using the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death to encourage hostility or spread unverified allegations.

He further warned that anyone whose actions constitute an offence under the law would be arrested and prosecuted.

The police also appealed to bloggers, media practitioners and members of the public to exercise restraint when discussing the matter.

They were advised against spreading unverified information that could create fresh tension between the parties.

Toluwanisings’ death on October 14, 2026, after reportedly slumping in Ibadan, generated widespread reactions among gospel music lovers and Nigerians.

The controversy surrounding his burial arrangements has added another difficult chapter to the tragedy.

With the latest police intervention, attention will now turn to whether the parties can honour their promises and allow the burial arrangements to proceed peacefully.

For many admirers of the late singer, the most important thing is that his family and loved ones find a peaceful way to give him a dignified farewell.
