Today’s Headlines: Tinubu To Win 2027 — Ex-ACF; OBJ’s Threat Made Me Run to Ghana — Amaechi

Former Secretary-General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Chief Anthony N. Z. Sani, has said President Bola Tinubu remains favourably positioned to win the 2027 presidential election despite growing public discontent over the rising cost of living.

Sani dismissed suggestions that Northern Nigerians were increasingly turning against Tinubu because of the economic hardship, arguing that the challenges were being experienced across the country.

He described attempts to portray the economic difficulties as peculiar to the North as misleading, insisting that Nigerians in other regions were equally affected.

The former ACF scribe, in a statement on Tuesday, said he agreed with former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor and Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, that the country needed fundamental economic reforms to overcome decades of economic stagnation.

Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, has spoken about how a threat from former President Olusegun Obasanjo forced him to leave Nigeria for Ghana during his political struggle to become governor of Rivers State.

Amaechi made the revelation in a video shared on X, where he explained that Obasanjo had threatened him while efforts were being made to prevent him from becoming the governor of Rivers State.

According to him, he travelled to Ghana to escape the situation and continued his political struggle from there until he eventually achieved his ambition of becoming governor.

The former minister made the disclosure while encouraging Nigerian youths to become more involved in leadership and take active roles in shaping the country’s future.

The agency disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Hassan Adekunle, a copy of which was made available to The PUNCH in Ilorin.

According to the statement, firefighters received the report and mobilised to the scene at 3:44 pm before commencing the recovery operation.

The Sector Skills Council for Building in Nigeria has directed construction companies and property developers to suspend non-essential heavy outdoor work between noon and 3:30 pm and introduce mandatory rest and hydration breaks to protect workers from extreme heat.

The council warned that rising temperatures, prolonged dry spells, dusty conditions and flash flooding were exposing construction workers to heatstroke, respiratory illnesses and workplace accidents, with potential consequences for productivity and workers’ livelihoods.

In a national safety advisory issued on Tuesday, the council directed contractors to restructure working hours, provide adequate drinking water and establish shaded resting areas at construction sites across the country.
