Winnie Odinga in Dilemma as 2027 Elections Approach, Asked to Choose Between ODM and Linda Mwananchi

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga has found herself in a difficult political position as uncertainty continues over the political party she intends to use in the 2027 General Election.

Winnie, the daughter of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, is yet to publicly declare whether she will remain in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) or join the Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi Movement ahead of her anticipated Nairobi senatorial contest.

Her political position has attracted attention after she skipped two major political gatherings held over the weekend. These included the unveiling of Linda Mwananchi’s headquarters and leadership in Lavington, as well as an ODM rally at Jacaranda Grounds.

Interestingly, organisers of the Linda Mwananchi event had reportedly reserved a front-row seat for her, but she failed to attend. Her absence raised fresh questions about her relationship with Sifuna and the direction she intends to take politically.

The uncertainty comes despite Winnie announcing on October 15 that she would contest the Nairobi Senate seat, following Sifuna’s decision to pursue higher political ambitions.

On Monday, November 2, Winnie took to social media and asked her followers to advise her on the political vehicle she should use in the upcoming elections.

The options included remaining in ODM, joining the broad-based faction, or moving to Linda Mwananchi. A significant number of respondents reportedly favoured the latter option.

However, joining Linda Mwananchi could also present challenges because several leaders within the movement have their own political ambitions in Nairobi.

Meanwhile, ODM remains another possible option, although her previous disagreements with some senior party officials have complicated her political relationship with the party.

As the 2027 elections approach, Winnie’s next move could significantly shape the political contest in Nairobi, particularly as rival camps position themselves for influential elective seats.
