Just In: Second Body Recovered from Collapsed Eastleigh Building
A second body has been recovered from the collapsed building in Eastleigh, Nairobi, as rescue teams continue searching through the rubble for people who may still be trapped.
The National Police Service confirmed the latest recovery on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, saying a multi-agency team retrieved the body of a woman from the disaster site.
The latest development brings the number of bodies recovered from the collapsed building to two, while four people have so far been rescued alive, according to the police.
The recovery comes 11 days after the multi-storey building under construction collapsed along 9th Street in Eastleigh on October 23, leaving several people trapped beneath tonnes of concrete and other debris.
The first body, also belonging to a woman, was recovered on Friday, October 30, after rescuers spent eight days searching through the remains of the structure.
Since the incident, emergency response teams have been working to clear the rubble and reach sections of the building where missing people are believed to have been trapped.
The operation has involved several agencies, with specialised equipment and heavy machinery being used to support the search.
In its latest statement, the National Police Service expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. It also wished those injured a quick and full recovery.
Police have urged members of the public to keep away from the affected area to give rescue personnel enough space to work safely and allow specialised equipment to operate without interference.
The tragedy has also raised questions about building safety, construction approvals and the supervision of projects in Nairobi.
Investigations are expected to establish whether the developers and relevant officials followed the required construction regulations.
Meanwhile, families of those still unaccounted for continue waiting for answers as the search operation enters another difficult stage.
Authorities have promised to provide further updates as rescue efforts continue.
