The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced temporary traffic diversions and movement restrictions in parts of Lafia metropolis ahead of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

In a press statement issued Tuesday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the rally was being held to mark President Bola Tinubu’s visit.

According to the command, the presidential campaign rally is expected to attract top government functionaries, political leaders, dignitaries from across the country, party faithful and supporters to the state capital.

Nansel said the command had put in place comprehensive security and traffic management measures to ensure adequate protection for the President and his entourage, participants and members of the public, as well as maintain peace, law and order before, during and after the event.

He stated that temporary traffic diversions and movement restrictions would be implemented around designated routes, adjoining roads and strategic locations within Lafia metropolis to facilitate the smooth movement of the presidential convoy, effective crowd management and the overall security of the event.

The command advised motorists, tricycle operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other road users to cooperate with security personnel deployed for traffic control, obey traffic regulations and comply with lawful directives at diversion points.

Commuters were urged to plan their journeys ahead, allow for possible delays, use alternative routes as directed and avoid unnecessary stops or obstruction of traffic along major roads and access routes to the rally venue.

Business owners, transport operators and residents within the affected areas were equally advised to make adequate arrangements for their daily activities in anticipation of the restrictions.

He added, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, appeals to residents to remain calm, exercise patience and show understanding throughout the period of the security arrangements.

“Members of the public are also urged to avoid unnecessary movement around restricted areas and to cooperate with security personnel to ensure a hitch-free event.

“The Commissioner calls on political stakeholders, party supporters and residents to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly. Persons without legitimate business at the rally venue and restricted security zones should stay away to prevent overcrowding or security breaches.”

The police spokesperson also urged members of opposition parties and other political groups to avoid any action that could disrupt public peace and to uphold the spirit of peaceful political participation.

According to him, the command assured residents that adequate security personnel had been deployed to strategic locations across the metropolis to maintain law and order, manage traffic, protect lives and property, and ensure the peaceful conduct of the rally.

It regretted any inconvenience the temporary arrangements might cause and solicited the understanding and cooperation of residents, while urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or security concerns to the nearest police station.

The rally is part of the APC’s political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party had earlier held a North-Central mobilisation rally in Lafia in October, where governors, ministers, party leaders and supporters from across the region gathered to express support for Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s second-term bid.

The event was organised by the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network and hosted by Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule.
