Two Bail Applications For Asante Akyem North MP Fail; Extradition Hearing Set For Nov. 18 — Dafeamek

According to recent reports from JoyNews, The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, remains in Dutch custody after two separate bail applications were rejected by judicial authorities in the Netherlands.

Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor confirmed the update during a Leaders’ Media Briefing, clarifying the legal status of the embattled lawmaker. According to Dafeamekpor, efforts by defense counsel to secure temporary release—including an initial substantive bail application and a subsequent appeal—were both turned down by the Dutch courts.

Frimpong was intercepted at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam by Dutch authorities following his arrival from Accra while on a transit stop bound for the United Kingdom. His detention stems from an international arrest warrant issued in connection with an extradition request from the United States over alleged offenses.

Dafeamekpor dismissed persistent rumors on social media claiming that the MP had already been extradited to the United States. He emphasized that the legal process remains strictly within the judicial domain of the Netherlands and must run its full course under international law.

“He is still in custody in Amsterdam. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the substantive extradition hearing will begin on November 18, 2026,” Dafeamekpor stated, appealing for public restraint while parliamentary leadership continues to liaise with Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague.

The upcoming November 18 hearing will determine whether the Dutch tribunal approves the extradition request. Until then, Frimpong remains in detention as state authorities and parliamentary leadership monitor proceedings to ensure due process and consular support.
