Three Nigerians arrested over robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi
Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a syndicate that robbed bank customers in Kumasi and surrounding communities.
The suspects are Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, also known as KC, 35. A fourth suspect, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, is still at large.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the police said the arrests were made on October 31 by an IGP’s Special Team, made up of officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit at CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate. The team acted on intelligence.
Promise and Uwalaka were picked up at a hotel at Moshie Zongo. A search of their rooms turned up GH¢1,600, several mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key that police believe was used to get into victims’ vehicles.
According to the police, the two named their accomplices under questioning and took officers to another hotel at Dichemso, where Kingsley was arrested.
Preliminary investigations suggest the group watched bank premises, picked out customers who had withdrawn large sums, followed them and robbed them. The police also say the suspects used the master key to break into unattended cars belonging to bank customers and steal cash left inside.
The three are alleged to have admitted robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, 2026, after the man withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They are also said to have been involved in similar robberies near the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other spots in and around Kumasi.
The suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.
The police have urged bank customers to stay alert for suspicious people around banking halls and not to leave cash or valuables in parked vehicles. They have also appealed to the public with credible information on Chinedu’s whereabouts to come forward.
