Joseph Owusu Went Missing For 2 Weeks – Found Dead In Bronx Dustbin, Ghanaians Cry Again

Pain has hit the Ghanaian community in Bronx, USA, again. 

24-year-old Ghanaian, Joseph Owusu, has been found dead in a dustbin, just about two weeks after he went missing.

This is heartbreaking because it is happening only five days after 15-year-old Javits Frimpong was chased and shot dead on his way to school in the same Bronx.

According to reports that broke on November 3, 2026, Joseph’s body was found by a scrap collector who was searching through refuse at a dumpsite in Bronx, New York. His body was lying among rubbish.

Joseph had been missing for about 14 days. His family, friends and church members had been looking for him, calling his phone, and posting his picture. Nobody knew where he was until that terrible discovery.

Who was Joseph Owusu? He was not a troublemaker. He was the organist at the Ghana United Methodist Church in the Bronx. Every Sunday, he played the organ for the congregation. People who knew him say he was humble, kind, and always ready to help.

A tribute from his church said, “He made himself available whenever those close to him needed support. Whether through a thoughtful word, a listening ear, or simply being present. He found happiness in spending time with family and pursuing his dreams.”

That is why his death hurts so much. How does a church organist end up dead in a dustbin?

The Bronx Ghanaian community is now living in fear. First, it was Javits Frimpong, 15, who migrated from Ghana a year ago to live with his dad for a better future. He was shot in the stomach at Crotona Place near East 171st Street around 9:20 a.m. on October 29, 2026, on his way to Dream Yard Preparatory School. He died at St. Barnabas Hospital.

Police in New York have not yet said how Joseph died. Was he killed? Was it a crime? The family is waiting for autopsy.
