Ministry seeks external investment to accelerate VALCO’s transformation
The Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) is seeking external investment to accelerate its transformation and strengthen its operational capacity as part of efforts to reposition the company under the government’s Resetting Agenda.
The company has developed a five-year strategic plan, structured into two phases, with the first focusing on optimising existing operations and fully utilising its two-potline capacity.
Addressing the media during the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources’ Progress Series, VALCO Chief Executive, Dr. Robert Makila Sambian, said the company had increased its operational pots from 114 to 200 as part of efforts to improve production.
He acknowledged that several challenges remain but said significant progress had been made over the past one and a half years.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have not solved all VALCO’s problems, but what has happened in the last one and a half years we have been in office, if we are given another one and a half years, we would complete the restoration of the optimisation phase,” he said.
Dr. Sambian said VALCO was also seeking external support to accelerate the transformation process, disclosing that the company was in negotiations with potential investors.
He explained that once the negotiations are concluded, the proposal will be presented to Cabinet for consideration and a decision.
The investment drive forms part of VALCO’s broader efforts to restore its operations, improve production efficiency and strengthen its contribution to Ghana’s aluminium industry and industrial development.
